Lower Omo Valley, South West Ethiopia
10 Days / 9 Nights Visits to Konso, Tsemai, Mursi, Hamer, Bena, Kara, Ari, Dorze Tribes **** This trip can be done with a flight directly to Jinka Airport and include more tribal visits. Day 1 – Wednesday : Addis Ababa – Butajira - Arbaminch In the morning, you will be heading South to Arbaminch via the scenic route of Butajira and Hosaina. En route, you will be able to visit the UNESCO-registered Tiya Monuments. Proceeding further through Wolaita Sodo, you will be arriving Arbaminch, overnight at Paradise Lodge. Day 2 – Thursday : Arbaminch – Key Afer – Jinka Early morning, you will be heading to Jinka via Konso and Key Afer. At Key Afer, you will be able to visit the weekly Bena market that attracts neighbouring tribes – Ari from Kako, Tsemai from Weito, Hamer from Alduba and the local Benas as well. Proceeding further and arriving Jinka, you will be spending overnight at Jinka Eco-Omo Lodge / Jinka Resort Hotel / Eyob Guest House. Day 3 – Friday : Jinka – Mago NP - Jinka Early morning, you will be heading into Mago National Park, home to the Mursi tribe. Settled in the Mursi lowlands of Mago National Park, you will be able to visit a local village. Returning back to Jinka late afternoon, you will spend overnight at Jinka Resort Hotel / Eco Omo Lodge Hotel / Eyob Guest House. Day 4 – Saturday : Jinka – Dimeka - Turmi In the morning, you will be heading to Turmi via Dimeka. At Dimeka, you will be able to visit the weekly Hamer market. Proceeding further and arriving Turmi late afternoon, you will be staying at the Buska Lodge. Day 5 – Sunday : Turmi Through the day, you will be visiting a local Hamer village in the surroundings of Turmi. End of the day, you will be camping overnight at Buska Lodge. Day 6 – Monday : Turmi – Korcho In the morning, you will be proceeding to Korcho, home to the Karo tribe that are best known for their body paintings and lip piercings. Settled on the banks of the Omo River, you will be able to visit Korcho and Dus villages. End of the day, you will be camping overnight in Korcho village or retuning to the Buska Lodge. Day 7 – Tuesday : Korcho – Turmi After additional visits to Dus village as well, you will be heading back to Turmi, arrival and overnight at the Buska Lodge. Day 8 – Wednesday : Turmi – Arbore - Konso In the morning, you will be heading to Konso. En route, you will be visiting an Arbore tribal village settled in the Weito lowlands parallel to Lake Stephanie. Proceeding further and arriving Konso at noon, you will spend the afternoon visiting local Konso villages, their terraced farm fields, wooden totems, nine-clan community structure. End of the day, you will be camping overnight at Chief Kalla’s village. Chief Kalla is the current Konso King that is the head of all nine-clans. Day 9 – Thursday : Konso – Dorze Haizo In the morning, you will be heading to Arbaminch and on to Dorze Haizo, 23kms North of Arbaminch. Thursday being the weekly market day, you will be able to visit this market. Mid-afternoon, you will visit a local Dorze village, their cone-shapped Elephant looking bamboo huts, cotton weaving which is their proficiency due to the 2,700meters asl they live in, ‘kocho’ preparation – their staple food etc. End of the day, you will be spending overnighting in Arba Minch. Day 10 – Friday : Dorze Haizo – Addis Ababa In the morning, you will be heading back to Addis Ababa via Shashamane and Ziway. Along the way we will stop for photo ops and coffee. Arriving Addis Ababa late afternoon, you will be transferred to the hotel for check-in. After refreshing up, you will be having complementary dinner at Yod Abyssinia Restaurant where you will be able to taste the best of spicy Ethiopian cuisine while watching live music/dance performance from various ends of Ethiopia. At 10:30PM, you will be transferred to your hotel for the overnight stay. |
